McGillXR's first VR film festival, run with Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and McGill Engine, showing experimental VR films to over 100 students on campus.
We hosted our first VR film festival in collaboration with Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (FNC), McGill Engine and the Phi Centre, showing the award-winning VR film Goliath: Playing with Reality to over 100 students on the McGill campus across an opening night and a three-day viewing exhibition. The film’s director spoke on opening night.
Goliath follows a man diagnosed with schizophrenia who finds connection through online multiplayer games. For many students it was their first VR experience; one called it “a beautiful and perspective-changing experience.”
FNC is a premier international film festival showcasing innovative films from around the world. With fifty years of history, they are at the forefront of film innovation.
The festival gave the McGill community the chance to meet VR industry professionals working in film, and created a social space for students interested in the medium.
